General drivel.

I've just been to have my eyes tested. I need new glasses. £345.00!

Apparently I now require reading glasses, so I have opted for varifocals.(I don't want to carry two pairs around with me.) I thought i was exempt from the eye test charge, due my disability.(I didn't pay last time!), but no, i am £25.00 lighter. The goalposts have been moved, unless you live in Scotland or Wales that is! Then it's free!

One of the criteria on the official form for a free test is if you are blind!

I'm speechless, but not surprised at this stupid country.

Blimey, are they set in diamond frames?

You don't have to be actually blind to be registered blind - if you think of degrees of deafness and how a hearing aid can help nearly everyone, it's the same with sight.

Dumdad, factor in the cost of me getting over there and back, it's probably the same. Also, my frames were £145.00.

Would you have got a discount if you had your brain tested at the same time?

Just a thought.

Now, where did I put my coat. . . .

If you get them also to adjust to light you don't need sunglasses.
Then it's over £400

Mum2, my old pair were like that, but I haven't bothered this time.

They did something similar here recently... adults used to get an optical checkup covered by provincial healthcare once every two years. But now... not so much. Not at all, in fact.

And $345 sounds about right for glasses, given the 1 pound = 1 Canadian $ equivalent buying power rule, which more or less works most of the time.

Sigh.
