AAWWW!!

I just had to get this photo ! This little bugger is as tame as can be, in fact 5 mins before this was taken it (not sure of sex yet) was in our kitchen, asking for currants.
Click on picture to zoom in. Dad's not to good with the digital stuff!

Awww... Little bugger's looking directly at the camera, too. Knows you're there!

And, um, how exactly do you figure out the sex of a bird? (A real birdl, smarty-pants, we don't use that slang over here...)

It's this years blackbird chick. If it matures pure black, with a yellow beak, it's a male!

it's so very tweet :)

Zoe, it's a cheeky sod, I've named it after you!
*ducks*!

you old softie feeding the birds- I presume you did give it some currants!!

Of course chris, we wouldn't get any peace otherwise! 8 times a day.

Aaah...I love blackbirds, they sing beautifully! Our roof seems to be full of fledglings all the way around the outside....it gets very loud and chirpy in the mornings!

I don't get many feathered pests around here; too many cats!

I love birds but so do my cats so they (the birds) don't hang around long enough to be photographed. However, a little group of house martins (??) were brave enough to go for Parsley when she was on the roof recently.

He/she looks a right character. I have a blind-in-one-eye thrush and a part white blackbird in my garden - so it's like Ellis Island around here.

He blows up beautifully. We get tits who only like a black nut and eschew the rest and I love our blackbirds who think they own the garden when actually it belongs to the feisty robin. And the bees grumble if i dare to dead head whilst they are sucking nectar. I mean who does all the bleedin' work?

HC, the blackbirds are great. We also have a fearless robin chick, but I have yet to get Dad to photo it.

Sandy, don't mention cats in this garden, if I had a gun........

Apprentice, don't you just love 'em?

Pat, you've blown our chick up? Heartless! lol.

Aawww indeed. What an amazing picture. Surprising he didn't fly away.

Unknown said...

Fly away? Sally it comes towards you, chirping for food!

Three-and-twenty more and you could make a nice pie.

Kidding, kidding. We have young Robins (the North American kind, big thrushy things) around here, all gangly and flappy and a bit uncoordinated in the air as yet. Cute as all get out, though.

Thanks. RP, He/she is a cheeky little sod, but it's fun having him/her around.

Unknown said...

Hope you've not gotany cats around watching and sizing him/her/it up... I'd be worried!

I want a big picture of John to put in my garden to frighten the birds away from my seedlings. How about it John?

Babs said...

Gah!!

Oh it's not my fault. I'm petrified of birds.

Hi john.g!!

Pat said...

Keith that would be counter productive. Birds obviously love John. Make of that what you will:)

Unknown said...

Babs, welcome to madness!

Pat, well you do!

I thought that country types like you shoot birds and put them in a bun with some onions and ketchup ?. Or are you just putting some meat on him ?.

Aw cute!
I have a cat but also a garden full of birds.this is due to the fact that the cat thinks that she may possibly be able to catch one if she just lies on the grass with her mouth open, waiting for them to walk in.as for chasing one, forget it!
so far this year we have 2 different types of woodpecker,thrushes,2 families of blackbirds, the robin family, dunnocks, wrens, woodpigeons and some turtle doves and finally robbie and squeaky the squirrels:-)

Unknown said...

Martin, 'us country types' do indeed shoot things to eat, buy you'd need a hell of a lot of poundage on a blackbird!

Phoenix, in 34 years of living here Dad and I have clocked up 39 different species of bird IN the garden, and several more flying over.

Unknown said...

Pessimist, welcome back. We too have thrushes(wood kind).

I sit at the computer watching our regular nesting blackbirds eat most of the crop of cherries off the tree on the patio.

They stand on the bamboo supports, pull the stalks to get them off them sit on the lawn right in front of me to eat them.

We love them though.

oh and robbie and squeaky have successfully reared 3 babies this year but are as yet un-named.Suggestions on a postcard please.
ps This morning there was a cuckoo outside my window!! nice but annoying at 5 o'clock!

Unknown said...

Duck, they are a treat.

Phoenix, I'll think about that one. lol.
