Sad news!

R.I.P.

Rick Wright

Rick Wright died on Monday, aged 65 following a battle with cancer. He was a founding member of PINK FLOYD, a group that were to captivate me over a 30 year period.

An accomplished musician, Wright was a genius on the keyboards, especially the Hammond organ, Also a prolific song-writer, he was responsible for most of "The Dark Side of the Moon", most notably "The Great Gig in the Sky".

The Dark Side of the Moon

He,along with the other members of PINK FLOYD have dominated my musical trend.

Unfortunately they have come to a premature end.

Long live PINK FLOYD!!

Thought about you when I saw the news. Though not as big a fan of Floyd as you,I did like alot of their tracks, my favourite being Wish You Were Here. Also have fond memories of listening to Shine On You Crazy Diamond whilst very stoned...............way back in my youth I hasten to add!x

Always sad to lose a hero. May he rest in peace with Jimi, Kossoff and the rest.

I'm a bit of a Pink Floyd fan, but obviously not as big as you are. I must say, that Rick had a massive head, did he not? And which one is Pink again? Sorry for your loss...

A beautiful tribute, John. I'm a Pink Floyd fan myself; my favorite
"The Wall." Tho there are countless others, all of them
profound. We have his songs forever to keep his memory alive.

It is indeed sad news - like you, the Floyd shaped my musical tastes all the way back from Piper at the Gates of Dawn, right up to Division Bell - I've always hoped they would come out with one more album ... ain't gonna happen now, is it.

RIP Richard, your music brought a lot of pleasure to a lot of people and you live on through it.

Dubaibilly, there is a new album out soon, from Gilmores' tour of Europe!

One of my favourite songs is 'Wish you were here.'

I was fed on Pink Floyd's music, thanks to my brothers.

His music will live on because he was so good!

Missed this while I was away. A sad loss, not the most outspoken of the band but a vital contributor to their unique sound. Shine on Rick, wherever you are!

A great band indeed - one of the first 'rock' albums my dad bought when we were kids was 'Dark Side of the Moon' - it holds many memories for me.

Another artist, another death.
RIP Rick.

Very sad indeed, I've been a fan too for most of my (adult) life :(

Still, good to see you marking it, John.g, fair play!

Bugger. Thanks for the news, I missed that this had happened.

Saw Floyd twice on the (post-Roger Waters) Momentary Lapse of Reason tour. Always thought Rick Wright was an incredibly important part of the music - the Hammond organ on the Wall, the whooshy pads and leads on Shine On You Crazy Diamond, the demented piano on Ummagumma, all of it.

Must go and put some Floyd on the shiny new iPod.

It is always so very sad when people who have touched your life---even from afar---pass on. I have read a lot about him these last days and of course I am familiar with the name PINK FLLOYD, though I am of an older generation, John, I can appreciate the pain his loss causes...!
