Pub news.

This place gets worse! First it was Trigger (it was he who prompted me to start this blog). Then Di, our ever-so-lovely soaker landlady took over. Together with her better other half, Jez, they have made a real go of it!

However, small slip-ups come to my attention from time to time every day.

car keys

Remember these? Well, they have vanished again!

"Jez, can I borrow your car keys? I put mine in a safe place so I could find them. But I can't remember where!"

Leicester Mercury

The headline is irrelevant, I just wanted the papers' header.

One of the local lads is out of work and had been given a tip for a job being advertised in the local rag paper.

"Di, have you got last night's Mercury?"

"What do you want?" She asked.

A phone number for a job interview."

"What's the number, I'll have a look."

Incredulous look.

"I don't know, that's why I want the paper!"

Then, to cap it all, we have Charly, the lovely barmaid.(This is great!)

Guinea Fowl Guinea Fowl, one of the tastiest birds you can eat! We were discussing there culinary merits, when Charly asked what they were. They are birds Charly.
roast Guinea Fowl

Roast Guinea Fowl, It doesn't come much better than this. But then Charly was a bit confused.

Guinea Pigs You see, Charly thought Guinea Fowl were posh Guinea pigs! An easy mistake anyone can make!

BBQ Guinea Pig

I bet she didn't reckon on seeing the cuddly little blighters spatchcocked!!

You've got to love this pub. There is no way anyone could make this up!

Roasted Guinea pig with all the trimmings could be the making of the Merrie Monk!

Mystic, strange but true!

Dumdad, not beyond the bounds of possibility. We've had squirrel and rook!

Are you sure it's a pub and not a mad house!

Pat said...

Yebbut we can multi-task:)

ChrisB - They are all quite mad at that pub except me and John, and I'm not to sure about John!

(Keith, Just thought I'd explain for others outside the UK who may not understand it).

That's a traditional Yorkshire expression:

"They're all mad 'round 'ere 'xept me 'n thee. An' I'm not too sure 'bout thee !!"

Superb stuff John! Humour as good as this is priceless, can't comment 'cos I'm still chuckling half hour after reading it. Keep it up!

Lovely stuff, John matey.

My old neighbour ate guineapig while he was travelling in Peru - much to his vegetarian girlfriend's disgust. Amazingly they're still together!

We have a contingent from South America in our community, from Chile I believe. According to one of my farming acquaintances, they purchase more guinea pigs for use as victuals than the local shops do for the pet trade. One wonders how long it will be before the local Peta or Aspca bunch will make this their next crusade. All about perspective, one ethnic group's cute and cuddly..another's tasty barbecue.

I'd eat guinea pig if it were served to me (maybe not with the head on like in the photo)... Heck, I'm at least half hillbilly--I've eaten squirrel, rabbit, deer, dove, frog legs, even a groundhog once (they are VERY greasy, not that good). You'd be surprised how many squeamish people there are today who don't seem to realize where their food comes from!

I guess that's why you and Keith fit in so well at the pub, John.

I heard on the news the other day that somewhere in the US is now espousing Raccoon as a new delicacy.

It's the mammalian equivalent of eating seagull - Raccoons subsist on a steady diet of things stolen from garbage cans, at least around these parts.

Yeurgh.

Hello, R,Pus! Guinea pigs are veggies though!

Yummy, I love guinea fowl but I've never tried guinea pig.

#Debi said...

R'pus: Yeah, you'd definitely want to find a country raccoon for eating. I give the same caveat to those wanting to try squirrel...

PI: - From Lancashire? Hey, I'm chuffed! Always thought it was Yorkshire as my Grandfather from there often said the version I quoted. Guess it got modified on the trip across the Pennines. :)
