Injustice

A friend of mine has, unfortunately just separated from his wife. They agreed that he would pay £80 a week maintainance for the kids. All was well until she "listened" to one of her frinds and got the C.S.A. involved. Much form filling later, they told him he was to pay £70 a week. A result, you may think. Not quite. As she doesn't work she is now claiming full benefits, rent, etc. and so is only getting £10 a week from the £70 being paid to the C.S.A. If she were to get a job she would get the full £70, but would lose one of her benefits (£100 a week). So, therein lies the injustice.............Where's the extra £60 going? My friend doesn't know.

The Child Suffering Agency.

Any lawyers out there?

If she is only getting £10 a week from the £70 a week he's paying then it's obvious that he's paying the Government £60 per week. If he pays all his other taxes etc, then he should not be giving them the £60 towards the £100 they give his wife.

That means that they are paying her only £40 per week. I think that if they give her only £10 of his money, then he should only be paying £10!

Anyway, don't take my word for it; ask Trigger. He'll put you right....

But there is a sweet irony in that she probably hoped to get more money from him and now he pays less.

No, Beccy, he pays the same, but she only gets £10 a week! Where's the £60 going?

That's bizarre. I guess it's because it's income support....and that is always based on the household's income and not the income of the person claiming. Therefore the DSS is saying that they don't need to pay her income support any more, because her ex husband is paying. Very unfair though.
