New pet.
Eric has been living under our fridge for some time now, and as the budgie became an ex-budgie a while ago, he (I assume it's a he) has achieved the status of family pet.
As yet, retrieving sticks has been largely totally unsuccessful, and going for a walk has been put on hold until a suitable collar and lead can be found.
For the statisticians amongst you, Eric sports a leg span of about 2 1/2", runs like, well, a spider on speed. Now, I know he's no match for the sort of nasties some of my foreign readers get. Tarantulas,Funnel web spiders, black widows, etc, but I think he/she's great.
Di, our gorgeous, but increasingly violent, to me landlady hates spiders with a vengeance, and slapped me for telling her about him/her.
I suppose it could be an Erica, or do you have any better ideas?

Enrique? I like spiders they keep the flies down...sounds a bit wrong that!
Jon m, yes it does. But I know what you mean!
That's an easy to keep pet john won't cost you a penny: maybe I need to swap it for one of the tortoises!!
That picture made me cringe and now I am getting spider paranoia! I'm afraid I agree with Di on this one!
I have a better idea--boot heel, floor, spider situated in between...
oh I am entirely with Di on this one, shudddddeerrrrrss
Just be careful not to roll over it or you'll have a flat spider with a span of 5" :)
Tom, #debi, and sylv, wimps, the lot of you!!
Chrisb, he/she's certainly cheap!
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek. I'm with Di - terrified of them!
Open the fridge door and when Eric goes in to investigate. . .
yes. . . you're way ahead of me.
Slam it shut!
I dont mind spiders as long as they are not crawling over my face *yikes*
As for a name...it looks like Harry rather than Eric to me.
I'm not so much afraid of them--it's just that I'm so very sweet that they tend to like to bite me...better them than me, I always say... :)
Awww he/she looks lovely! They tickle everso gently when they crawl up & down your arm or leg :-)
Looks like a Sid to me.......altho Eric does have that certain ring to it!
my name for it would be DEAD, it would not survive in my house by now it would have been sucked up the hoover! sorry cruel i know
Spiders make excellent pets. We catch flies for ours - you have to throw the fly towards the web just right, so that it sticks without breaking it.
Aragog. It could be Aragog.
Or Eugenie. Naming spiders after princesses seems reasonable, somehow. Perhaps not "Di" though.
I am not mad (much).
R'pus, you are mad (a bit).
Aawwww, that's a nice looking spider.
My wee home is full of a hunting, leaping type - currently battling each other as the summer supply of moths and flies dwindles now is autumn.
Say hi to Erica from me. Female spider are larger than the males, plus like to eat the blokes after or even during mating.
Mickle, a bit like the human species then!
Only this morning whilst lifting the vegetable basket off the table in the back porch, I saw a lethal one very similar. I screamed for MTL but by the time he arrived it was gone - who knows where?
Mum2, please! Lethal?
Eric is fine - as long as he stays at your house.
Oi! Haven't you forgot to give the answer to the question of the three fish who's name begins and ends with the letter "K"?
I suppose I had better tell them because you've obviously forgot'
It's:
"Killer shark",
"Kilo of Haddock",
and; wait for it,
"Kilmarnok"!
Now all we have to do is wait for someone to come up with the obvious response . . .
Kilmarnok isn't a fish. In fact none of them are apart from the first two. Twit!
Nice one John, legalise cannabalism?
Huggles from Mickle
How cute is he/her? What sex then?
Fanks Keef - I was wondering. Lurve the answer
That's a great spider J, and now you've put it on the web!
Ok, Spidey, Kilmarnock, it's a plaice isn't it?
